How to Brew Turkish Tea Like a Local: From Traditional to Everyday Methods

Turkish tea isn’t just a drink — it’s a daily ritual, a sign of hospitality, and a timeless expression of culture. At Tami Gourmet, we’re passionate about honoring that tradition while making it easy for anyone to enjoy a perfect cup, no matter where they are.

Whether you have a çaydanlık (Turkish double teapot) or not, there’s a way to brew a bold, flavorful cup of Turkish tea that captures the essence of the Rize highlands.

🔥 Brewing with a Çaydanlık: The Authentic Turkish Method

The çaydanlık is a two-part teapot that lets you brew a strong tea concentrate on top, while keeping water hot in the bottom pot to dilute your tea to taste. This method unlocks the full flavor and aroma unique to Turkish tea.

Step-by-step:

  1. Fill the bottom pot with fresh water and bring it to a boil.

  2. Add several (5-7) tablespoons of Tami Turkish Black Tea leaves to the top pot.

  3. Pour boiling water from the bottom pot into the top pot over the tea leaves.

  4. Place the top pot on the bottom one and let the tea steam gently for 10–15 minutes over low heat—this slow brewing develops the rich taste.

  5. To serve, pour some of the strong tea concentrate into a glass, then add hot water from the bottom pot to adjust the strength. Turkish tea drinkers like it anywhere from light (açık) to strong (demli).

This method requires patience but rewards you with a perfectly balanced cup every time.

No Çaydanlık? You Still Have Options

We get it — not everyone owns traditional Turkish teaware. While nothing compares to the original method, you can still enjoy Tami Turkish Black Tea using tools you have at home:

  • With a regular teapot: Steep loose-leaf tea in freshly boiled water for 4–5 minutes. Strain and adjust the strength to taste.

  • With a tea infuser: Add 1–2 teaspoons of loose tea to your infuser, steep in boiling water, and enjoy.

💬 It won’t be the same depth of flavor as the çaydanlık method, but thanks to our high-quality leaves, you’ll still get a satisfying and aromatic cup.

✅ Brewing Tips for the Perfect Cup

  • Always use fresh, cold water for the best flavor.

  • Don’t over-steep — bitterness can develop past 15 minutes.

  • Turkish tea is traditionally enjoyed without milk.

  • Serve in a small tulip-shaped glass, if you have one. It makes all the difference.

Sweeten if you like — just know that many Turkish tea lovers drink it straight.
